Goauche and Caran d’Ache on paper

Inspired by the 1000-yr-old architecture of Macina di San Cresci, the Tuscan residency where I spent two hot weeks in July 2023. The studio of the residency was an olive mill and wine cellar, with equipment and casks embedded in the iconic space. I made a series of stonework studies while in residence and painted several days in the shaded garden to escape the heat.
